Get Involved

As an independently funded school with not-for-profit charity status, we rely on the gifts of our families, friends and community partners. Whether you volunteer at a school event, share your expertise in the classroom, or donate to our Annual Appeal, each gift supports something unique in London: traditional Montessori education. We are grateful for each and every gift, no matter what size it is or shape it comes in.

Why Give

Ask any school administrator – regardless of the school board or location – what their biggest issue is, and they’ll likely say “having to do more with less and less money.” Our school is not immune to this reality. In fact, we may be worse off because we do not receive any funding from the government.

Our school needs the support of our families, the business community, foundations and other charitable organizations to address the growing gap between tuition and the expense of delivering high-quality, traditional Montessori education to families in and around London.

Your investment into our school helps to ensure future families have the option to provide their children something special – an education that promotes academic excellence and prepares children and young adults to engage the world as active citizens and successful leaders.

How you can give

  1. Support our fundraising initiatives

Tuition covers more than 95% of the Academy’s day-to-day operational expenses. However, we need your support to continue to invest in program enhancements, faculty development, student environments, and other strategic initiatives to give our students the best possible education.

    Types of gifts
    • Donations – Monetary gifts can be donated securely online or at the office.
    • Sponsorship – Support of our special events, such as our ARTexpo, musical performances and fundraisers.
    • Gifts in Kind – Team uniforms, classroom material, kitchen equipment, and professional skills and services, etc.
    • Planned Giving – Major gifts to the Academy are a part of a donor’s estate planning, such as a bequest in a will. For this type of donation, our school needs to be identified by our legal name: “Montessori Academy of London, Inc.” and our charitable registration number 105229124RR0001 will be required. A recent bequest to the school purchase new furniture for our Lower Elementary classes.
    How your gifts are used

Donations and gifts made to the school support the priorities outlined in our Strategic Plan:

    • Programs – The prepared environment of the Montessori classroom places emphasis on the use of carefully designed materials. These specialized materials are expensive to purchase because of the detail in each piece and the fact the school needs to purchase a complete set for each classroom level.
    • Capital Improvements – Maintenance of our beautiful old buildings and properties is a large budget expense. Your gifts support the regular maintenance of the buildings, and have helped to fund accessibility and environmental upgrades that make our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
    • Faculty Development – We are fortunate to have a faculty of talented, passionate educators. Their professional development opportunities benefit the school as a whole as well as each student. These opportunities also help us attract and retain many of the best and most qualified teachers in the area.
    • Financial Support – We believe everyone should have the opportunity for an authentic Montessori education. The Ann Marie Harding Financial Support Program was created to offer families who are committed to Montessori education, but who require financial support to stay in the program at the elementary level.
    • Special Projects – Some school projects require extra funding above tuition. Our outdoor space at our Oxford Central location is a great example of how special projects enhance the quality of the education our students experience.
  2. Charitable giving

The Academy participates in Charitable Giving to local (Children’s Health Foundation, London Food Bank and Merrymount Children’s Centre) and international charities (Free the Children, Sleeping Children Around the World) that directly support children. Every effort is made to make these activities meaningful, educational, and to develop a sense of responsibility and appreciation on the part of the student.

  3. Volunteer at the school

We are truly grateful for the time, energy and enthusiasm that our Parent Volunteers give as active members of our community. Gifts of your time and expertise is invaluable to our students – and whole community. Learn more about how you can volunteer with the school in our Volunteer Opportunities page.
