Elementary Lost & Found pickup – Friday in Courtyard
There is a wealth of wintery items that are looking to go home in the Elementary Lost & Found. We will place them out for pickup in the Courtyard on Friday April 27; anything left over at the end of Extended Hours that day will be donated to Goodwill or another charity.
Coming soon: Waterloo & Piccadilly 40 km/hr speed zone!
We received a notice last week that the city plans to implement a “School zone” speed limit. This email came from a city contact:
On April 17 the Civic Works Committee was presented with a number of school zone speed limit changers which included the school on Waterloo Street. The following is what the city proposed…
The Traffic & Parking By-law amendment to implement the above will be going to Municipal Council (today) April 24. A work order will be issued once the amendment is approved. Installation of the signs may take a few weeks as the sign crew has a number of work orders to complete.
Phys Ed updates
The boys are excited and are getting ready to play their first tournament of the season on Saturday, April 28. They have been playing some great basketball, and have 4 games left in their regular season play.
The girls continue to work diligently in practice and hope it carries over into their last five games of the year.
Swimming to Survive
The Year 3 students completed a three-week water safety program at the Centre Branch YMCA. Congratulations to all that participated.
Floor Hockey Intramural
Congratulations to all of the students that took part in the floor hockey intramural at Kinsmen Arena this week. We had a great showing from all of the teams; and our Junior and Senior girls just missed making it to the semi-finals by goal differential. The Junior boys lost their semi-final game and the Senior boys came home champions after winning the final game 4-3. Great job, everyone!!
Track and Field
We are fast approaching our in school track and field day on Friday, May 11, when our students in Years 4-8 to practice all of the events from high jump to shot put to 100m dash. Please come out to cheer on the athletes. This day is a lead-up to the big track meet at Western University on Tuesday, May 29. More information will be posted on the Junior High and Upper Elementary websites closer to the dates.
Outdoor Phys Ed
Please dress appropriately for gym outside, including footwear – no boots or Crocs-type shoes. Good running shoes and layers are appreciated.
WE Club Project
Perfect timing for Earth Day, Upper Elementary student Jenyvette prepared an AWESOME literacy project for the school’s WE Club. The coil bound book she created offers valuable information on the school’s composting program with Orgaworld Canada, as well as waste disposal and recycling in the city of London! It also included word searches and other puzzles that the reader could enjoy. So creative! Great work, Jenyvette!
Check out this video on Facebook of Jenyvette talking about her project.
Also, watch for more information on WE Club’s Walk for Water on Friday, May 25, in an upcoming Buzz.
PD Day Camp Video
Here’s short Facebook video of our students at Junction Climbing last Friday! What a fun, active way to spend a PD Day!
Interesting read about the dexterity
There are so many benefits to the practical hands-on work that our students do starting as young as our Toddler students. Here’s an interesting article Oxford Casa teacher Bessie shared recently. “Children are not coming into school with the hand strength and dexterity they had 10 years ago”:
