Thank you and what’s next!
Although I have had the opportunity to express my deep gratitude to many of you, there is not a person past or present; adult or child; that I am not grateful to… So, in case we have not crossed paths during my final days: Thank you!!
Although parting is such sweet sorrow, I am excited about my next stage in my Montessori journey. I have already immersed myself into a Master’s degree program out of Kings University College at Dalhousie University in Halifax. The program is a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Non-Fiction Writing, with the intent of having a manuscript for publishing by June 2019! My topic will in part encompass all of you. As a lifetime advocate of Montessori education, and someone who continues to want to share the amazing benefits of Montessori, I will tell my story about experiencing Montessori through the lens of student, teacher, parent, school leader, community member and teacher trainer. I want to further public knowledge about the tremendous depth that each of these experiences has had on my life and the lives of others; and why, now more than ever, Montessori is so important in a world so often consumed in strife and even hate. I will also tell similar stories of others globally about their Montessori experience: The Montessori teacher in inner-city St. Louis, Missouri; the student in Sydney, Australia; and the parent from Bejing, China.
When not reading and writing, I will also continue my volunteer work with the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA) as director of consultation for school accreditation in Canada. As well, I will support the Toronto Montessori Institute with the elementary teacher training program on a casual basis. I also hope to continue to support anyone who wants to further their Montessori understanding as I continue to grow in mine.
I have a full schedule and hope to be completely focused on the promotion of a broader Montessori understanding in the future.
Best wishes to the amazing team of faculty and staff led by Tina Sartori as the school embraces a new strategic plan, celebrates 50 years, and shares the benefits of Montessori education. – Margaret Whitley
Board message coming soon…
Please watch your Inbox for a year-end message from the school’s Board of Governors.
You did it! What an incredible year! Together you raised $74,179 for MA!! Thank you for all you have accomplished this year…
A large focus of our Annual Appeal this year was Capital improvements. Our beautiful old buildings and properties are a large budget expense. We have projects planned for our elementary facilities including many upgrades for Junior 3 over the summer months that will now be possible because of your support.
Big Ten Raffle
The Big Ten Raffle raised just over $15,000 for the school! These funds will be used towards technology improvements over the summer months that will have an impact on all of our programs. Thanks to all the families who participated in buying and selling tickets. A huge thank you to all of the donors who contributed to the amazing prizes!
Whitley Tribute Fund
We are pleased to announce your contributions to the Whitley Tribute Fund totaled over $8,000! This special fund was set up as a tribute to Margaret Whitley’s lifetime achievements with the Montessori Academy of London as she begins her retirement next month. Stay tuned to hear about the impact this fund will have on the school!
Last week at the graduation, the Class of 2017 presented their Legacy Gift to the school. Together, the families of the graduating class donated $2,970 to start an exciting new program for Junior High students, an Odyssey trip with Alive Outdoors. This gift will impact the Junior High program for years to come, as it was critical to book with Alive Outdoors for this coming September in order to reserve an ongoing spot for future years. Thank you graduating class!
But wait, there’s more… Please continue to read about your impact on our school in this PDF summary of our Fundraising and Development initiatives.

Events from last week of school
Year End Celebration
This year’s Year-end Celebration was a bittersweet event. We congratulated our senior students who are moving up to the next levels of our school; we honoured several staff and faculty for milestone anniversaries; and we thanked our longtime leader, Margaret Whitley for 13 years of guidance over a 29-year career at the school (… more if you count her years as a student). And although we’ll miss her dearly, we cannot wait to see what she does in the next chapter of her Montessori story.
- If you weren’t able to join us for the celebration, we’ve shared the segment honouring Margaret – and her speech – on Youtube: https://youtu.be/UzaBBPyCSio
- Here’s a link to the original Margaret’s Slideshow that was presented at the Year-end Celebration, created by Shawn: https://vimeo.com/222218135

Continuing Creativity – Art update from David M.
After an amazing but shifting year of art with your creative children we ran out of time.
The students’ wonderful clay projects were caught in the mix. Many of the Upper Elementary and some of the Lower Elementary projects are not complete. I will hold this work until September when we will finish them.
The Junior High projects are now complete and can be picked up after today in the main office over the summer. These projects are self portraits and not signed. If your child can not be with you to pick them up please have them describe one or both sides of their tile to you in order to avoid confusion. If you are unable to pick them up I will gladly hold them until September. Thank you all for a wonderful year and your patience. Enjoy your summer. – David Moynihan
Other activities around school…
At Waterloo, our students got messy during their mud day and messy painting day activities!
At Westmount, the students prepared for the big holiday weekend with painting projects!
At Oxford, X-rays, geckos and rainbows kept the students busy.
Happy Canada Day!
Our Lower Elementary students and teachers cooked up a cool project on the last day of school. Take a look at the video: https://youtu.be/YsU541y6RdQ
FYI: We’ll share this video with the world via our Facebook page on the big day.

David P. took to the skies for Make-a-Wish Foundation :-O
On Friday June 16, I took part of the Make-a-Wish Foundation’s “Rope for Hope” fundraiser. My goal was to raise $1,500.00 and even though I didn’t quite make it, they still let me rappel down the side of the TD Tower in London – a 26-storey building! (I’m currently at $1,150 – so if you’d like to help me reach that goal you still can – go to: https://makeawishca.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.participant&participantID=1629; you will receive a tax receipt for your donation!)
The only thing I didn’t like about it was the building wasn’t tall enough – it was over too soon! Many thanks to all who supported me! – David Pasquino
