School Garden Project – Walter J. Blackburn Foundation

Over the summer the garden gnomes will be busy building a new Greenhouse and Perennial garden at our Elementary location thanks to a grant from the Walter J. Blackburn Foundation!

The purpose of the project is to contribute to a healthier and greener environment by practising sustainable gardening techniques that provide opportunities for hands-on learning for students in school curriculum subjects such as botany, nutrition and ecology. The greenhouse will grow fruits and vegetables, and the perennial garden will grow plants that attract pollinators – birds, bees and butterflies.

The Greenhouse will be located just outside of Upper Elementary, and the Perennial Garden will be in the Elementary Courtyard; both will give students increased opportunities for outdoor, hands-on lessons. Thank you Walter J. Blackburn Foundation!

More Support for the UE Kitchens!

We would like to add a special thank you to the Making a Difference – C. & J. Wright Family Fund within London Community Foundation for their generous $1,000 towards the Upper Elementary Kitchens project.
