Holiday wishes and a wonderful gift
round out 2017!
(Plus LOTS of fun photos and activities!)

Dear MA Families & Friends,

A Message from Tina

With the holidays fast approaching, I wanted to revisit the idea of the three gifts I spoke about at our Winter Concert. If you haven’t had the chance to give any of these gifts yet, you have two weeks coming up to give to your hearts content! The three items were:

  • The gift of kindness ~ this can be as simple as helping someone or being courteous

  • The gift of time ~ make it a priority to be with the people you love and are important to you, and

  • The gift of being present ~ wholeheartedly give your undivided attention to an experience or to those you are with…

These gifts are invaluable to their recipients! I hope everyone has a wonderful break!

PD Day and Winter Break

Friday is a PD Day for the students. The Main Office will be closed over the two-week break, starting Friday at 11 a.m. We re-open on Monday, January 8.

We hope you have a fantastic holiday, and enjoy your time with family and friends!

A gift from Sifton Family Foundation

We have amazing news to share! The Sifton Family Foundation has given MA a generous donation to purchase new Science Tables for our Junior High program! These new chemical and fire resistant tables will be an incredible addition to the program. Thank you, Sifton Family Foundation!

Waterloo Toddler Holiday Sing-a-Long

Warmest wishes to everyone who came out to celebrate the holiday season with the Waterloo Toddlers. They performed holiday classics and decorated cookies. The toddlers wrapped up the celebration with some balloon dancing and presented their loved ones with the gifts they worked so hard on! Thank you for celebrating this Holiday season with us! Happy New Year!

Waterloo Casa activities!

Guest visitors
We have been studying Asia this term and we were very excited to invite Aditya’s parents Shruti and D.K. into our class so we could learn more about India. Shruti and D.K. talked about landmarks, traditions, food and instruments. We learned about the various states in India and the rich culture. Did you know that there are 23 different languages spoken in India alone! The children listened to traditional music, smelled various spices and tasted a traditional dessert called Gulab Jamun. We just love when we have guest speakers. Thank you so much Shruti and D.K. for teaching us so much!

Holiday Baking…

Calvin was very excited to bring his mom to school this week. Sarah is a talented baker, who came in to decorate a Gingerbread house and to bake Christmas cookies with us. The children loved learning about the ingredients used to make buttercream icing, and assisting Sarah with making a fresh batch. Everyone happily helped decorate our classroom gingerbread house, and a gingerbread tree and man to take home. Thank you so much, Sarah, for taking the time to make these delicious treats with us!

Westmount Casa visit to Fanshawe Conservation Area

Westmount Casa was  lucky enough to enjoy one of the last fall-like days of the year at Fanshawe Conservation Area. We took part in “Christmas for the Animals.”  We started our day with an entertaining puppet show where we had the chance to meet some of our furry friends who live in the forest.  We then set off to leave food for the blue jays and chickadees.  We were so quiet we were able to see a number of beautiful birds come and have a snack.  Finally, the children were given red ribbons to hang on tree branches with the hope that they will be used to build nests. The children truly enjoyed their time outdoors and we would like to thank all of our parent volunteers for helping out.

Casa 3’s Colombia study

A great big thank you to Catalina and Wilfredo for visiting Casa 3 and teaching us about Colombian music, food and the Spanish language. The children enjoyed baking their own Pandebono along with a snack of plantain chips and an oatmeal smoothie.

Digging out on Wednesday

Do you remember Wednesday morning’s sizable dumping of snow… We do, too. Thankfully, a few of our students helped out with some shovelling in the morning to help keep the sidewalks clear. Thanks, kids! Great job.

Junior High’s holiday fun

Junior High got a jump on the holidays last week with Festive Friday and Mika’s home-made potato latkes, which she prepared for her classmates on Wednesday to celebrate Hannukah.
