Photos from the week
Casa 1 Africa study
This week, Casa 1 began our cultural study of Africa by learning about its biomes. The children enjoyed creating a beautiful sunset of the African savannah using pieces of ripped construction paper followed by experimenting with light to trace the shadow of an elephant standing near a tree in the Serengeti.
Casa 2 study the rainforests
It might be white, super cold and windy outside, but Casa 2 is hot and lavish green as we are studying South American Rainforest. We are learning about its fauna and flora, and all the wonderful foods and medicines that come from there. It’s inspiring to hear the students’ ideas when we talk about ways of saving the World’s Rainforests.
Casa 3 Silence Game
This Casa 3 student was tasked with testing her concentration, senses, and patience in the Silence Game. Their recent classroom discussions about mindfulness inspired her meditative pose. She sat in stillness for…. Wait for it…. 3 whole minutes.
Makin’ music in Lower El art
Our Year Three students were happy to return to the Art room this week to paint their clay maracas and make some music with them. Check out the cute video here: https://www.instagram.com/p/CKzZxnWHoVk/
Dear Mummy: Year 4’s are studying Egypt
The Year Four students are learning about ancient Egypt this month. Last week, the class gathered for a very special lesson about the ritual of mummification. Carroll dressed up as Cleopatra proceeded to mummify an adorable pink unicorn. She assured the class that he died of old age and his spirit will go on to live a good and happy afterlife.

Waterloo Casa – concentration and coordination
Three-year-olds are amazing!! Concentration, retaining multiple steps and the appropriate sequence, motor control = care of the environment for a first-year Casa student. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK4J0jEHMqu/
Westmount Casa – Polar region art
As Valentine’s Day is fast approaching (and since the Groundhog predicted an early Spring), what a better time to end our study of the Polar Regions??!! Westmount Casa celebrated this “cool” landscape by creating our own version of the Northern Lights…. aka the Aurora Borealis. The children used strips of coloured tissue soaked in water to make their own unique special creation. As much as we love winter, we also can’t wait for Spring! https://www.instagram.com/p/CLE7D65HQPF/
