Montessori Buzz – Jan. 19, 2021

Dear MA Families & Friends,

PD Day on Friday; half-day for Elementary and JH

There is no school for our Toddler and Casa students this Friday, Jan. 22. Our Elementary and Junior High students will have Zoom sessions in the morning and have the afternoon off so that the teachers get a half-day of Professional Development.

Re-Enrolment for 2021-2022

Our annual Tuition & Fees message will be shared in next Tuesday’s Buzz.

Re-Enrolment for MA’s current students will open on Friday, January 29.  If you have any changes to communicate regarding your child’s enrolment (i.e. switching from part-day to full-day), please contact Victoria Little, Registrar, prior to January 29, at vlittle@montessori.on.ca. All MA families will receive re-enrolment instructions via e-mail next week on Friday.

COVID-related updates later this week

We will find out this week if our Elementary and Junior High students will return to the classroom starting on Monday, Jan. 25. Watch for an email update from the school.

One thing we do know already is that when our Elementary and JH students return to their classrooms, all of them (Years 1-8) will be required to wear masks. A memo received last week from the MOE – Private Schools Division said that: “Masking will now be compulsory for all students in Grades 1-3. Reasonable exceptions on the requirement to wear masks will apply. This masking requirement will be additional to the existing requirement for students in Grades 4-12. Students in Kindergarten will continue to be encouraged, but will not be required, to wear masks.”

We are still waiting for the updated guidance documents from the MOE from both the CCEYA and Private School Divisions. Once received and reviewed, we will update our MA Parent Guides, if required and provide a specific update to families if any changes to our protocols need to be made.

As always, thank you for your patience as we await and respond to these updates from the government.

Student article in Neighbours of… magazines

While the Elementary and Junior High staff and students are not in the school (YET), this magazine article written by Junior High students Grace and Maitlyn shows the great efforts our school community has gone to since September to keep one another healthy and safe.

Thank you to our students, parents and staff for adhering to the masking and physical-distancing rules for the benefit of everyone. We hope to see all of our students back in the halls soon.

The article appears in the January 2021 edition of “Neighbours of Old North” and “Neighbours of Riverbend” magazines. Well done, Ladies!

Westmount Toddler – feeding the squirrels

Our Westmount Toddlers have been making food for the squirrels this week! They love to feed to the squirrels and watch them eat the bread that they have prepared.

Casa 1 spidery snack

Here are some pics from Casa 1! We don’t often encourage the children to “play” with their food, but we did today! The Casa 1 children made spider webs, spiders and spiderlings with their afternoon snack to compliment our study of arachnids!

Kate’s mom caught her doing her math lesson with a little help from a friend. “It was too cute to miss!” AGREED!
