Montessori Buzz – June 25, 2019

Last Buzz of the year!
Happy Summer!

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Thank you to all of our families for a fantastic school year. This is the final Buzz newsletter for 2018-2019. We wish the best of luck to our graduates and our students who are not returning to MA next year.

Office closed early and summer hours

Please note: MA’s Main Office will be closed Thursday at noon, and all-day Friday this week. Summer Hours begin on Tuesday, July 2: Monday-Friday – 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Camp Discovery kicks off Tuesday, July 2!

Early/Extended Hours payments are due Wednesday!

Please note that all payments for Occasional Use of the Early/Extended Hours program are due to the school tomorrow – Wednesday, June 26.  Final invoices for the school year were sent home on Friday, the last day of school.  Please contact Victoria at 519-433-9121 ext. 211 or vlittle@montessori.on.ca if you are unsure of your balance for Occasional Use.

Volunteering at school/police checks

If you plan to volunteer with the school next year (and we hope you do!), you will need to complete our Volunteer Application and Self Declaration Form (PDF) or submit an updated Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC). If you need an updated PVSC, it may be helpful to apply for it over the summer because there is often a lag-time in the processing of these checks in London.

You can apply through the London Police Services website: London Police Service, Police Background Checks. Supporting forms are available on our school website: https://montessori.on.ca/our-families/forms-policies/. Contact the Main Office for more information or to receive a dated letter from the school to accompany your application for the PVSC.

Annual Appeal open until June 30

There’s one last opportunity for our tree to sprout more leaves!  If you haven’t had a chance to donate to the annual appeal this year, you have until June 30 to make your gift count towards this year’s fundraising efforts. A big thank you goes out to our many supporters and donors who have already made a contribution.

We are VERY close to reaching our overall goal for 2018-2019 with just under $5,000 left to go!  The bulk of our fundraising efforts are being directed towards the completion of upgrades to Junior High that will benefit our students for years to come. This project includes new floors, paint and kitchen renovations, along with higher grade appliances to meet the requirements of our growing program, which includes preparing and serving 150 lunches each week.

Westmount Toddlers’ last week of school!

There was lots of excitement for the Toddlers at our Westmount location during the last week of school. Pool day was filled with fun and splashes, but the visit of the police officer was definitely the biggest hit! Nothing was more fun than pushing the buttons in the police cruiser. We thank our families for all of their support and kindness this year, and we wish everyone a wonderful summer!

First responders visit Oxford Casa

Over the last few weeks, the children have enjoyed our theme of safety. We began by talking all about safety in the home, and out in the community. The children learned about the importance of having a fire plan in their home, what to do in an emergency, how to call 911 and how they could keep themselves safe. They derived great pleasure from a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog, our local Firefighters and their fire truck, Paramedics and their ambulance, and an RCMP police officer with their cruiser. We would like to thank all of these professionals who took the time and shared their expertise with the children. The students were so well informed.

Waterloo Toddlers – ready to take flight!

Like the butterflies emerged from their cocoons, our toddlers are spreading their wings and moving up to Casa. We are very happy for them and will miss them dearly!  With Love, your Toddler teachers!

Waterloo Casa sundae social

Waterloo Casa welcomed its parents to the classroom for a year-end social.

Upper El talent show

The Upper El students showed off their sweet moves and other talents during their talent show last week.

Year 6 vs teacher soccer match

On Friday, the Year 6 students took on the teaching staff in a soccer match.

UE scavenger hunt!

All of Upper Elementary gathered together in Piccadilly Park to complete a scavenger hunt. They read the plaques and signs on the property and hopefully learned something through the process. More importantly, they had a great time!! Even our friend Adam Harris joined us for the event!

Graduation 2019

At Graduation last Thursday, we celebrated our newest graduates from Montessori Academy. Rain couldn’t dampen the festivities. Congratulations and good luck, Graduates!

You or your child’s teacher may be wondering if your child has dyslexia or a learning disability. This workshop will, at a minimum, cover the following topics:

    • Please Note: This is NOT a psychoeducational or psychological assessment. No diagnosis will be provided.

The first session (July 2) is for both children and caregivers; the second session (July 4) is for caregivers only. The cost is $250.00 per child, however, if fees pose a barrier to participation please connect with me by phone or e-mail to discuss options.
