Montessori Buzz – May 18, 2021

Dear MA Families & Friends,

PD Day & holiday this week

There are no lessons/Zoom sessions (zippo, zero, zilch!) for the students at all levels on Friday so that the teachers can participate in PD Day activities. We are also very aware of the additional strain on well-being this lockdown has put on everyone and as such, staff will be offline a bit earlier than usual on Friday so they can also find a way to restore themselves in such a way that will serve them best.

The school will be closed on Monday for the Victoria Day Holiday.

From 50 to 100 Challenge: You did it!

You did it! You raised $6,830 for the school! Our Board of Governors will match $6,500 of this challenge, bringing our total over $13,330 in just two weeks! Thank you to all our incredible families, friends, staff and Board members that helped us DOUBLE our goal!

The MA Community continues to rise to every challenge and occasion, paving the way for academic excellence for years to come. Thank you!

You can still make a contribution for this academic year until June 30, 2021. Our main focus for fundraising this year continues to be the Elementary Lunch Kitchen, however, donations can also be directed to other areas of need within the school. Donate online through the school’s website: https://montessori.on.ca/get-involved/ways-to-give/

Westmount Casa Eid celebration

Westmount Casa would like to wish Eid Mubarak to our Montessori Academy Family.

Casa 3 crustacean classes

In Casa 3, we have been studying crustaceans. For Music & Movement class, we learned all about Sea Shanties and practiced crawling like crabs! We’ve also enjoyed examining a real lobster, creating lobster booklets, and using our hands and feet to create lobster artwork!

Grandparents’ & Special Friends’ Day messages

Waterloo Casa had an MA-zing learning activity last week that was a big adventure and a multi-step process! We made greeting card “hugs” for our Grandparents and Special Friends… but it didn’t stop there! We learned how to place the greetings into an envelope, address the envelope, and then stamp the envelope using the super-cool machine in the office! We completed the task by heading to Rexall to mail the messages!

Lower El 1’s Got Talent!

LE1 held a talent show on Friday afternoon. The students had a chance to showcase some amazing talents, such as singing, drawing, dancing, playing various instruments, and many more!

From the Community

Seeking Citizen Scientists….

A recent LFP article highlights a need for local “citizen scientists” to help with two projects. Community science is a way to crowdsource data collection. From the article: “All participants need is a cellphone, internet connection ‘and a keen interest in the environment.’…”
