Monday Morning Montessori Madness!
Did you catch Shawn and Kristen on Fresh FM Radio Monday morning? Kristen was chosen to play Mind Grind on behalf of one of the callers … and was victorious with a score of 6 to 4. WOO-HOO! They did a great job talking about Montessori and our upcoming anniversary events, including the Family Fun Day & Open House Saturday from 10am-2pm. Fresh FM Radio is our Media Sponsor and will be at the park on Saturday, broadcasting live! Plan to stop by!
Please note: These events are all open to the public – we encourage our friends, families and neighbours to join us! As such, parents are responsible for their children during all of the events. Our staff will be there, however, they will be responsible for hosting all visitors, not just our students. Thanks for your cooperation! We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
50th Anniversary Items for Sale
We will have several 50th anniversary items for sale at the Main Office during the Open House and then at the Gala… Including our very special, exclusive beaded bracelet…
The school wanted to create a keepsake piece for the 50th anniversary. We chose a wooden bead bracelet to represent the beautiful Montessori material; we added one yellow bead like the yellow/gold in our 50th logo and the trinomial cube. A golden water droplet represents something so small that can make ripples of change. The bracelets come in three sizes: small, medium, and large. They are $20 each; proceeds support our fundraising efforts. The bracelets were made in cooperation with London-based social enterprise Little By Little, which works to keep Haitian families together through employment opportunities and other initiatives. There are a limited number – be sure to get yours at the Open House or the Gala on Saturday!
Year 3 students from Junior 1 helped prep some reusable tote bags to sell at the Open House and the Gala on Saturday. Thanks for your help, kids!!
We’ll have a special giveaway at the Family Fun Day on Saturday, too, that’s neither a bird nor a plane… but something else that flies through the skies…
FYI: Items for sale at the Open House and Gala will be available for sale through the Main Office starting next Monday.

Parenting Puzzle complete!
Over the last two weeks, we put the final pieces of the Parenting Puzzle together with our families. This workshop was a great experience connecting a diverse group of parents; we had representation from Toddler, Casa and Lower Elementary. The participants took away valuable, practical information and offered the following feedback on the sessions:
- “I thought it was very informative and touched on all developmental stages.”
- “Every session had a few pertinent take-home points for strategies to try out.”
- “It was great learning about all the methods being implemented in school and trying to match it at home.”
Interested…? We will run this workshop again in the fall on Mondays 4-5:15 pm, starting mid-October for five weeks. Topics will include: Seeing The World from Three Feet Tall; Why They Do What They Do; What Do You Do When You Want to Trade Them In; If We Can’t Punish or Reward Then What? and Parenting on the Same Page.
The sessions are a mix of videos and discussions with supported reading from “How to Raise an Amazing Child the Montessori Way” and “Redirecting Children’s Behaviour.” A wealth of knowledge is also collected by sharing experiences from parents in the group!
If you would like your name added to a list to sign up when registration becomes available, you can contact Sara Heald at Reception. We would love to see you there! Watch for more details on this in the fall.
WE Walk for Water
The WE Club held the WE Walk for Water fundraising event last Friday. The day began with all of the Elementary students gathering in the courtyard to hear the story “Only One You” by Linda Kranz. The story’s message is that every individual can make the world a better place. Every Elementary child had decorated a stone in the style of the book’s artwork at the beginning of the school year. On Friday, these stones were placed, one by one, around the commemorative tree in the courtyard.
Then, throughout the day, each class made their way to the park, where they walked a 200 metre circuit carrying 4 to 8 litres of water. Many children were surprised at how difficult this task was.
In our Casa classrooms, the children took part in various water-related activities, practising their practical life skills and learning about water.
The grand total of the contributions was an astounding $1,623.75!!! WOW! This total more than triples the WE Club’s initial fundraising goal. This means that at least 64 people will receive water for life!!!!
Thank you to everyone who donated loose change for this charitable giving event. More photos are available on our website: https://montessori.on.ca/photo-galleries/community-involvement/we-walk-for-water-2018/
Growing Chefs Field Trip
The Year 4 & 5 students in Upper Elementary visited Growing Chefs! Ontario
‘s location on King Street. They were involved in harvesting some produce from the garden, preparing and cooking the meal, (beautifully!) plating the food, and of course, eating it! They were also given lessons on the food production and distribution cycle.
Tuesday’s Track Meet
All the UE students participated with great enthusiasm despite the extreme heat. Nigel and Luca placed 1st and 2nd, respectively, in high jump. Bravo, everyone!
