Montessori Buzz – May 3, 2022
Dear MA Families & Friends,
Art Expo is May 11!
The Year 2 students are studying Pablo Picasso and are creating portraits inspired by the cubism style. Marcus exclaimed that this was the best piece of art he’s ever done. “I’m an Artist! Will you put this in the Art Expo, Meghan?”
Oh my goodness! Of course this will be on full display at the Art Expo. Who could deny such a request?
Junior High’s Micro Economy Returns! (at Art Expo)
Junior High’s Micro Economy is excited to announce that we will have a booth at the upcoming Art Expo, May 11. We will sell the P.A.C (Plant, Art, and Challenge) Jar for $10, cash only. They are decorative jars containing either a spider plant or succulent and tied with a mix of mindfulness exercises, jokes, quotes and eco-friendly challenges. We hope that the purchase of a P.A.C Jar will bring serenity to your mind and brighten your day, as well as encourage environmental awareness and opportunities to make a local impact. Please remember to bring cash. We hope to see you there!
Artisan Market is May 27
Donations for book sale at the Market
We’re still looking for book donations for the book sale at the upcoming Artisan Market. If you have children’s, YA and adult books you no longer need or want, please drop them off at your child’s location. There is also a white bucket at the Main Office. Thanks for your support!
MA-zing student donation to the Library Project
These MA-zing UE students took the initiative to raise funds for our Library Project. They hand-made and sold bookmarks and raised $80.20 to support the upgrades to the Elementary Library. Our librarian, Rob, was excited to receive such incredible support from the students. (And how clever is the cardboard cash box?! Love it!) Way to go, friends!!
Happy Mother’s Day
Wishing all of our MA-zing moms and mother-figures a wonderful weekend filled with love, laughter and joy! Thank you for loving and supporting our students!
Bear Witness Day is May 10
In the spirit of Reconciliation, we’re sharing information on Bear Witness Day on May 10. Bear Witness Day is a day both to show support for First Nations youth and to call on the federal government to address the longstanding discrimination faced by First Nations children.
May 10 is Spirit Bear’s birthday and an important date in the history of Jordan’s Principle at the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
The video ‘Spirit Bear and Children Make History’ is available online: https://vimeo.com/518281693, and tells the true story about how Spirit Bear and his friends stood with First Nations children to help make Jordan’s Principle a reality. The film is by Spotted Fawn Productions and the First Nations Child & Family Caring Society.
