Montessori Buzz – Nov. 15, 2022

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Heads-up: Drop-off Wednesday

We’ve been informed by the City that Waterloo Street, from Piccadilly to Kenneth, will be blocked Wednesday morning; but access to these streets will still be available for drop off, it may just be a bit busy. Please plan accordingly. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Masking

Currently in the school we are seeing an increase in illness (of all kinds!) like the rest of the province. At this point we have not received any directives from the Health Unit to change any of our current practices. We are seeing an increase in mask wearing across the levels in the school and continue to be a mask-friendly environment.

FYI: Year at a Glance updates…

PJ Day & our CHF Charitable Giving

CHF is a committee of Junior High students whose connection with the Children’s Health Foundation (CHF) is longstanding. Winter weather and Gym

All students are encouraged to dress for the weather, including a hat, gloves, winter boots or outdoor shoes, and snowpants when required.

Please have your child bring indoor running shoes and wear their gym uniform on gym days under something that is loose fitting and comfortable (this makes for easy changing at the gym). There will be times that we are outside, however for those days indoors we do require our gym uniform.

*We may have some clothing in stock, however sizing is very limited. If you require some shorts or T-shirts, please contact Tameka.

Next up in December is Intramural Volleyball.

Photos from the week

Toddler practical life skills

Practical Life is a huge part of Montessori philosophy. Making sure the environment is clean is important work! These two Toddler students enjoyed the task of loading the dishes into the dishwasher after snacktime. https://www.instagram.com/p/CkvvSeMDD65/

Casa 3 Italy study

After studying in Italy this week Casa 3 tried our hand at making biscotti.

Lower El Montessori material…

Two of our Year 1 students collaborated to work on the Europe Pin Map in LE1.

Remembrance Day

We held our first Remembrance Day Assembly in three years (!) on Friday. Thank you to the teachers and students who put together very special presentations and performances.

In case you missed these displays created by our students for Friday’s assembly… We honoured MA family members who have served in times of war and peace. Lest we forget.
Thank you to our JH students Bennett and William G. for taking photos at the Assembly. Take a look through our Photo Album for more photos of Remembrance Day, these beautiful boards, and the week at school through this link: https://montessori.myschoolapp.com/app/detail/album/photo/1715064

Special guest chef in JH

Special guest chef Evelyn Sugrim came into Junior High today to cook authentic Guyanese dishes.
She made potato curry and sautéed chickpeas with the students. Students paired it with Naan. It was so delicious … and fun to get back into having guest chefs in the Junior High kitchen.
