Budding Artists deadline extended

Budding Artists has extended the deadline to get your orders in until this Wednesday, Nov 23! Find your unique Art Code on your child’s art in the blue envelope that came home last week and order it online at buddingartists.ca.

Heads-up: Photo Retake Order forms this week!

If your child/ren had their photos retaken on Nov. 4, look out for the proof in their bags this week. Because of the delay, the due date on them has now been extended to December 2. If you meet the deadline, there will be no shipping charges added to your order.

FYI: Board recruitment – new community member

The Board is still seeking a new community member with expertise and knowledge in Human Resources, Information Technology, and/or Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

A “community member” is an individual who is not directly involved with the school (not a parent). If you have any connections within your networks who are passionate about education and offer the experience the board is looking for, please forward this opportunity.

The Journey to Discovery

One of the Parent Events we’ve been able to re-introduce this year was the Journey to Discovery. It’s an engaging close look at the material and work the children experience every day in the classroom. We had a fantastic, engaged group of parents join us on Friday evening and Saturday morning. We are grateful for your time commitment to learning more about your children’s education. We also thank the faculty who joined us for the Silent Journey on Friday evening, and led the lessons in the classroom Saturday morning.
Some thoughts from the parents who joined us this year:
  • Q: Tell me one word after today? A: Fortunate, grateful, inspired, excited, mind blown.
  • Q: How will this change how you will explain Montessori to others? A: everything is scaffolded right from Toddler to Junior High; a very fluid process and makes sense; predictable; the ‘why’ behind concepts is explored
  • Q: What was a highlight? A: learning that the materials are self-correcting; to see the process and the end results
  • Q: What did you learn about the process of learning? A: That Maria Montessori designed so many materials; how much and how deep our child is learning; how amazing to hear the big words and concepts explained even to young children; the real-life application of things.

Photos from the week…

Westmount Toddler Applesauce

This week the Westmount Toddlers made apple sauce! We worked on many practical life skills with this activity…and it tasted delicious too!

Waterloo Casa Africa study

Waterloo Casa has been studying all things Africa for the last several weeks! We’ve learned all about the Sahara Desert, the African rainforest, and the Savanah. Today we are making a biome map that shows the different vegetation, climates and landscapes of the continent! https://www.instagram.com/p/ClOu41Fj6FN/

Casa 2 Fall Birthday Celebrations

At Montessori Academy of London, we celebrate our student’s birthdays with a special “Birthday Walk” recognizing a child’s birthday as a “Celebration of Life.
The “Birthday Walk” is used to symbolize a child’s journey on earth from newborn to school, marking the passage of time by walking around the Sun. It also introduces children to the concepts of months, days of the month, the rotation of the sun on its axis and how the earth revolves around the sun marking 365 days or one year. This celebration is also used to help children recognize how they have grown during the year and how they have changed since their birth. It provides a special way to highlight them as well as create and foster a sense of community in the family and classroom.
Big thanks to our families for donating delicious and nutritious birthday snacks.

Casa 2 Australia study
