Montessori Buzz – Nov. 26, 2019
Dear MA Families & Friends,
Reminder: Our Winter Concert is next Tuesday!
Our Winter Concert is only a week away! RSVPs are due Thursday. Please note the time of this year’s performance — it starts at 4 p.m. The students performing will be bused there earlier in the day. There is no after-school Extended Hours programming that day so that all of our staff and faculty can attend this event.
Thank you, Melissa, and welcome back, Tonya!
We are truly grateful to Melissa Parker for her work leading our fundraising efforts and events over the past year, and wish her all the best of luck. Her last day is Friday, and her enthusiasm and humour will be missed.
Tonya Dendrinos, re-joins the admin staff full-time next week. We’re glad to have her return to her role as Development Director. Tonya can be reached via email at tdendrinos@montessori.on.ca or ext. 233.
Friday is a PD Day
There is no school for the students. The office will close at 1:30 p.m. for a staff holiday gathering.
Corporate Matching Gifts
Are you looking to make a contribution to Montessori Academy and want to get more bang for your buck? Corporate Matching Gifts allow you to effectively double, triple or even QUADRUPLE your donation to charity. Many companies will match the donation made by an employee to a nonprofit. Here’s a link to a list of some of the top employers in Canada that offer a matching program. Not only do employers offer to match monetary donations dollar-for-dollar, but many will make a contribution based on the number of volunteer hours you put in. Talk to your HR representative today to see if your workplace participates in this initiative.
Rollerskating
The Year 4 students went rollerskating last week as part of the Phys Ed program.
Casa 2 musical guests!
Casa 2 would like to express gratitude to parents Lisa Dawn and Luiz, who visited Casa 2 and shared their love of guitar music with us. We loved exploring the instruments and hearing the beautiful music they played for us.
Senior Casa class visits!
Last Wednesday all of the Senior Casa students spent the morning visiting the three Lower Elementary rooms. The students were in groups with the Year 1’s and 2’s and cycled through the classrooms experiencing Music, French and Art. Thanks to the specialty teachers, Marty Kolls, Nathalie Ostroff and Jenn Neron and the Homeroom teachers, for the fun activities you provided. It was nice for the Senior Casa students to visit their old friends now in elementary and to see what life is like in the ‘big school’.
Look out Leonardo da Vinci!
In Casa 3, the students are learning about Italian art this week…
PJ Day
Pyjama Day is a favourite Charitable Giving event our students participate in because both students and staff really enjoy dressing in cozy jammies. Thank you to our families for supporting this annual event with your donations of spare change.
Cell Pizza
Our Year 4 students enjoyed a tasty take on biology class recently: they created cell pizzas.
Plant cell in green slime
Jax and Bex learned about the parts of a plant cell – using green slime!
Have you taken a look through our Annual Report?
We had many highlights during the 2018-2019 school year. Take a peek through our Annual Report to learn more about one MA-zing year. Find a PDF on our website: https://montessori.on.ca/annual-report/
Holiday Artisan Bazaar
We extend a huge thank you to the parents and teachers who lent a hand with Saturday’s Artizan Bazaar. The Junior High students were also incredibly helpful in prepping for the event – putting up posters, planning the hot chocolate bar, moving furniture and organizing vendors. Overall, it was a successful day bringing in just under $1000 and had over 156 people attend! Take a peek through some photos of the event, including our student (and staff) vendors!
