Remembrance Day assembly reminders, photos, and more

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Elementary and Junior High Remembrance Day Assembly

Please join us for our annual Remembrance Day Assembly Thursday starting at 9:15 a.m. at Colborne Street United Church Gymnasium. Coffee and tea will be available starting at 9 a.m. All choirs are performing in the assembly, so please ensure your Chorister comes dressed in the proper choir attire (this gives a very polished look to the Choirs!).

  • Black Pants (no skirts, tights or yoga pants please)
  • Black shoes and socks
  • White choir polo shirt

If your child has Phys Ed on Wednesdays, please pack their gym uniform in a separate bag and not under their choir outfit.

Performance shirts were sent home with students on Friday! If you have not yet purchased a shirt, please visit the Main Office. All students in Year 1, Junior/Senior Choirs & Years 4-8 will require this shirt for performance related events.

Final Warm-up Thursday: Please have Junior Choir and Senior Choir members at Junior High for a warm-up at 8 a.m. on Thursday morning.

Elementary/Downtown locations – traffic flow reminder

We have received some valuable input from neighbours near our downtown locations about the flow of traffic during pickup and dropoff. Please be careful during these high-traffic times and mindful of our neighbours’ properties. We have protocols in place to ease the flow and make it a safe and efficient as possible process; please view this PDF of the Elementary location parking protocols:

Friendly reminder, please do not block our neighbours’ driveways or turn around in driveways.

Sports update

Senior Volleyball
The girls played very well in their tournament at CCH on the weekend. They are still waiting for the first round of playoffs start. The boys wrapped up their season with some strong play at St Mark’s. Their first tournament of the season is on November 10 at CCH.

Senior Hockey
Students in Years 6-8 are invited to join the senior hockey team. For safety reasons, athletes that are interested in participating on the team must have their own hockey gear and have played organized hockey/ringette within the last six months. Our first ice time is a game at 8am on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Kinsmen arena.

Meeting at Children’s Health Foundation

Today, Ann and the Junior High Charitable Giving committee met with the team at Children’s Health Foundation (CHF) to discuss which CHF program the school’s charitable giving is going to support this year. PJ Day is coming up on Nov. 23 – loose change donated that day will support CHF’s programs – as determined in this meeting!

Ann says it was a truly beautiful moment to watch these students collaborate with the foundation – to listen to the needs and programs the foundation supports. Ann has led this initiative since 1997, and it never gets old. Through these activities, we support the school’s vision of “a community of confident, compassionate and engaged citizens.”

1000 Acts of Kindness – Casa edition!

Our 1000 Acts of Kindness month was a true success.  During our time of collecting items for Merrymount Family Support Centre, the children gained an understanding of the needs of other children within the community.  On Monday, Oct. 29, the classes of 311 Oxford Street enjoyed a visit from Merrymount and were able to help load their van with the many treasures. Thank you to all for your incredible generosity.

Anova Halloween goodie bags

As part of #1000ActsOfKindness month, our Junior High students have been putting together treat bags for the children staying at Anova‘s shelters this Halloween. The students delivered the goodies, and the school received a lovely tweet from Carolyn and Anova thanking our students for their thoughtfulness!

Paper chain – How long is it?

Here are some of the children at Westmount using their bodies to measure the length of the paper chains that they made for our Halloween Boo-wling event at Palasad!

Casa dioramas!

Casa 3 has been busy creating a diorama of the layers of the rainforest.

From the Community
Well, how cool is this? Our friends at The Squire Pub & Grill are doing something fantastic to thank our current and retired military members and first responders on November 11. Please share and spread the word. Thank you for your service.
