Staffing update, upcoming events, PD Day camps and community news

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Staffing update – Development Director / Tonya’s leave

Wednesday will be Tonya’s last day (temporarily) in her role, as she is taking on a much larger and more important role of fighting breast cancer. Tonya has a great team behind her (as well as the support of the entire MA community!) as she starts this year long journey. Tonya will continue to be a part of our Montessori family, as we will see her out at events and in the school with her kids as she feels up to it.

We are happy to announce that Melissa Parker will take on the Development Director role while Tonya is away. Melissa started Tuesday and comes to us most recently from a role at Let’s Talk Science; she has many years of experience working in the fields of event management, marketing, fundraising and communications.

Join us in welcoming Melissa to the school community — and wishing Tonya the best of luck as she kicks cancer’s butt.

Journey to Discovery

If you are interested in joining us for this impactful hands-on look at the Montessori program – from Toddler through Junior High – please speak with your child’s teacher. This really is a unique education that provides a peek at the curriculum — from the child’s perspective.

Talk to your child’s classroom teacher if you are interested. Space is limited, so register early!

Waterloo Casa Class Visits

Classroom Visits happen throughout the year, and they are an exciting experience – for our students AND their parents! Parents gain a better understanding of their children’s daily activities, the Montessori material/curriculum, and practical life skills the children learn; and our students LOVE showing their parents what they’ve been working on. Here are some photos from Waterloo Casa’s Parent-Child visits last week.

Casa 3 Class Visits

Our students thoroughly enjoyed welcoming their parents into our classroom. They were very proud to demonstrate their skills and share their learning space!

UE’s medieval times

The Year 6s are studying the Middle Ages, and they had the opportunity to actually try on some chainmail and feel the weight of it.

Junior High shopping trip for the past dinner

A lot of planning goes into tonight’s Elementary & Junior High Pasta Dinner. Through this student-led event, the food committee in Junior High learn how to plan and host a large-scale meal, plus budget and shop for supplies. Last week a few students went to the store to purchase pasta, drinks and more for this annual event.

Tameka in Junior High music

Our very own Tameka has some skills outside the office environment. Last week she joined the JH students for a rehearsal and to provide some very valuable feedback on their practice… but not before she showed them how it’s done! Enjoy this short clip of her singing for the class: https://vimeo.com/294434703/7d29b38777

Survey opportunity for Parent & Guardians

Are you looking for help finding counselling supports for yourself or your children?

Many parents/guardians and their children experience mental health challenges, behavioural concerns, addiction, family disruption, parent-child conflict, and/or other challenges such as FASD or ADHD.

We are looking for participants for a study aimed at learning how parents access support and counselling services.

  • How can supports be improved?
  • How can access be improved?
  • How could your needs and the needs of your family be better met?

If you feel you have experiences to contribute that will help us answer these questions, please complete the brief survey below. (3 minutes)
