Montessori Buzz – Oct. 17, 2023
Dear MA Families & Friends,
Policy reminder: Delayed Start
As noted in the 2023-2024 Parent Handbook and your printed Year at a Glance Calendar (PDF), in the case of extremely bad driving conditions (ie. due to ice, not fog; and when TVDSB buses to city schools are cancelled), the school leadership may decide on a ‘delayed start’ to the school day. In such instances, there will be no Early Hours program, and school will start at 9:30 a.m.
A text message will be sent to MA families and staff by 6:30 a.m., with an email to follow; other communication channels (school website, social media) will be updated as soon as possible after.
Remembrance Day Assembly RSVP by Friday
Elementary & JH parents: Please let us know your plans in this RSVP Google Form by this Friday, October 20, so we can plan for the correct number of buses: https://forms.gle/1ZPeqpA2pJGZihPU7
Last Day to Buy Halloween Boo-ling tickets
Today is the LAST day to buy tickets to our Halloween Boo-Ling event! There are only a handful of 6:40pm bowling tickets left. Buy your tickets online at https://montessori.on.ca/halloween/ before midnight tonight.
Take the Journey to Discovery
This engaging hands-on activity presents the spectrum of traditional Montessori work to parents – taking you on an abbreviated version of your child’s Montessori journey from Toddler through Junior High.
We invite families who have not gone on the Journey to join us this year for this two-day event in November. https://forms.gle/KaVVfhontDqLLGP47
Volunteer opportunity: Winter Family Fun Fair Committee
We are looking for parent volunteers to join the Winter Family Fun Fair Planning Committee. The planning committee will assist with organizing the event, as well as on the day of the event. Time commitment is approximately one meeting per month leading up to the event, with additional meetings as needed during the month of February. Committee members must also be available on the day of the event to assist with set up, running the event, and clean up.
The first meeting will be in November, 2023. For more information or to sign up for the committee, please contact Tonya Dendrinos at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 519-433-9121 ext. 233.

Introducing the Montessori Trailblazers!
Dave and Janet introduced our new school team name last Wednesday in the Elementary Courtyard to an excited group of students! We are the trailblazers… Kickoff video on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CyRADhdr6QT/
Both the Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball teams racked up wins this week – no doubt fueled by their MA-ZING new uniforms. Bravo to all!
Acts of Kindness Month!
Lower El – Supporting the Child Life Program
A big thank you to the Lower Elementary families that have sent in a donation to the Child Life Program at the Children’s Hospital. We are so grateful! Donations will be accepted until the last day of the month!
Our Casa and Upper El families are asked to donate to the London and Area Food Bank, while Junior High’s families are invited to donate new socks for Pursuit519; the goal is to collect 519 pairs of socks by November. Thank you to all of our families who are able to support your classroom’s donations.
There has been lots of play, learning and fun in the Westmount Toddler classroom. After all, “Play is the work of the child.”
Casa Circle R Ranch trip
Our Casa students took a field trip to Circle R Ranch this week! For many it was their first field trip with the school, and their first ride on a big yellow bus!
Grace and Courtesy in Casa
Here’s an example of Grace and Courtesy in action! In a traditional Montessori Casa program, opportunities for the awareness of one’s needs and the needs of others are supported through our virtue lessons in Grace and Courtesy, and our Peace Education. Children become profoundly aware of the importance of noticing and acknowledging the needs of others while also honouring their own needs through discussions, modelling behaviour, and dramatization of feelings, positive socialization and conflict resolution.
UE Culture studies
During their study of the Middle Ages, the Year 6 students got to try on some chain mail! Huzzah! And our Year 4’s were learning about ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses!
