Montessori Buzz – Oct. 29, 2019

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Photo retakes on Friday

Photo Retake Day is this Friday, November 1, at 8:30 a.m. All students are to sign in at the Front Desk, as photos will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Tameka will have a sheet available for you.

Testing urgent messaging Thursday morning

We will test our new urgent messaging with all parents and staff this Thursday, Oct. 31, in the morning. You should receive a text message to your mobile phone and an email to the email address(es) that you have included in your Contact Card through the MA Parent Portal.

We will begin to use this urgent messaging next week. We don’t anticipate using it often, however, it will provide a more immediate way to reach our families with time-sensitive information such as weather-related school closures, etc.

Please ensure you have at least one mobile phone number in your Contact Card to receive these text alerts. Thank you for your support as we implement this enhanced parent communication tool.

Elementary Lost & Found items

Elementary has accumulated quite a bit of lost and found already this year. We will have it set out both Thursday and Friday in the courtyard for parents to check, weather permitting. In case of rain, Amanda will set all of it out the library.

Halloween Boo-wling!

A big thank you goes out to those that attended our Halloween Boo-wling event on Friday at Palasad South.  We had a howling good time with our costumed kids – and parents! This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to get together socially, and it helps to raise funds for the school.

Our costume winner was Adeleine K., who dressed as a dinosaur. And congrats to the Brew family won the door prize of one hour of free bowling from Palasad!

Here, our winning dinosaur revels in her victory with her prize – an MA picnic blanket and bucket hat!

Budding Artists forms come home this Friday!

This Friday, we are sending home the order forms for our Budding Artist fundraiser.  This year, there’s the option to pay online which will help streamline the process.

Order forms need to be returned by Monday, November 11 to ensure delivery of products by December 6.

Please email Melissa Parker with any questions/concerns.

Holiday Artisan Bazaar: November 23

Save the date for our Holiday Artisan Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 23!

Media and book swap at the bazaar

Have some old records, books and tapes kicking around?  On Saturday, November 23 at our Artisan Bazaar, we will be featuring a media swap where you can bring in your well-loved treasures and trade them for something new-to-you.

Want to donate ahead of time?  We will be accepting your records, tapes, VHS, DVD and books before the event to grow the collection.

We are also recruiting parent volunteers to help out with:  pre-event set up the day before, admission table and assisting vendors and Junior High students with their tables.

Please email Melissa Parker for more info.

Phys Ed Updates

Year 1 and 2 Gymnastics
Thank you to Forest City Gymnastics for hosting our year 1 and 2 students for a visit. We enjoyed our time and had the opportunity to try many different things such as the balance beam, trampoline, parallel bars and giant foam pit.

Senior Volleyball
The girls played exceptionally well last week in their tournament at St Catherine of Siena, and are looking forward to the next one at CCH on November 9. The boys had a tournament this past weekend at CCH and played great in all their matches. The season wraps up this week for both teams; up next is the first round of playoffs. Good luck!!

Senior Hockey
The ice hockey team is open to all Year 6 and Junior High hockey/ringette players. A note will be sent home with those students that are interested. The first ice time will be Thursday, November 14 at 8 am at Argyle Arena. More information can be found on the Junior High and Upper Elementary websites.

Upper Elementary Soccer Intramural
Students interested in participating in our soccer intramural will be divided into teams and play during recess, with winning teams moving on to a one day tournament at the BMO Centre. We’ll send a note home with the winning teams outlining details of the tournament. The girls will play on Tuesday, November 5, and the boys will play Wednesday, November 6.

Acts of kindness month

Waterloo Casa’s students have collected food, kitty litter, toys, treats and collars for the London-Middlesex Humane Society during 1000 Acts of Kindness. Thank you to all of the families for your generous donations in support of our Charitable Giving. ♥️

In Lower El 3’s classroom, the students have been gathering donations for their charity of choice, Merrymount Family Support and Crisis Centre. They have also been gathering good deeds on their Kindness Board. There’s a pen and sticky notes that the students can fill out and post when they see or experience a kind act!

Westmount Casa Phys Ed in the sunshine!

A few weeks ago, Westmount Casa had our first gym class of the school year!  The children were in for a surprise when our bus pulled up to Piccadilly Park.  It was such a beautiful day we thought we would take advantage of it while we could!

Westmount Casa parent visits

Thank you to all of our parents who came by Westmount to catch a glimpse of what it’s like to work in a Montessori classroom!  The children were very excited to share what they have learned over the last few weeks!

Study of South America

To conclude our studies on South America, Lower El 1 celebrated by making delicious Brazilian Cheese Balls.

PD Day activities for MA faculty and staff

Friday was a PD Day, which means no school for the students. Our faculty and staff, on the other hand, were busy at work during the All Staff meeting Friday morning, discussing a webinar they recently watched as part of their professional development.
