Dear MA Families & Friends,

Reminders

PD Day on Friday and Holiday Monday

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our families and friends! Friday is a PD Day; there is no school for our students. On Monday the school is closed for the Thanksgiving holiday. Have a wonderful long weekend. 🙂

Casa AND Toddler Picture Days next week

  • Westmount – Tuesday, Oct. 11
  • Waterloo Central – Wednesday, Oct. 12
  • Oxford – Thursday, Oct. 13
FYI: Picture retake day is November 4.
(EDIT: updated since the Buzz was sent to include Toddler in title.)

Report absences/lateness by phone

To report absences, early/late pick-up, or other messages to your child/ren’s teachers, please call the school and leave a message for the classroom. All class extensions can be found at the back of your Year at a Glance Calendar (PDF)(TIP: Save this PDF on your mobile device for quick access.)
If it is before or after school hours, you can dial the class extension to go straight to their voicemail. If it is during school hours, you will be forwarded to the classroom or their voicemail, if the teachers aren’t able to pick up. Reception is not responsible for forwarding emails to teachers; please call the school directly.

Join us on the Journey to Discovery

  • Junior High Building at 742 Waterloo St. & Central Locations
  • Attendance is required both days.
  • A light lunch will be served Saturday afternoon.
We invite families who have not gone on the Journey to join us this year for this two-day event in November. Please note that attendance on both Friday night and Saturday morning is required.

Space is very limited – maximum of 2 people per family.

Free parent online workshop: ‘Intro to Positive Discipline’

Charlotte Peck is a 3-6 certified Montessori guide and a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator. Charlotte has been using Positive Discipline in classrooms and with families for years, and has seen firsthand its powerful impact on children and those who care for them.
With implementing Positive Discipline, parents express feeling more confident and connected with their children, a deeper understanding of their child’s behavior (and their own), and a love for the practical applications of the tools and strategies at home. Photos from the week

Orange Shirt Day

Our Junior High students visited their younger peers throughout the day to read to the students and guide lessons on Orange Shirt Day.

The Pink Tower in Casa 2

Wolfe from Casa 2 loves working with the pink tower. The work helps the students develop visual and muscular perception of dimensions. In this photo, Wolfe is moving the smallest pink tower cube around the ledges of each cube, which helps him to understand the size difference between the cubes (the difference is 1 cm).

Casa 3 food preparation

A student in Casa 3 was so excited to have a lesson on food preparation!! Here he is spreading some jam on crackers that he will share with a friend! Not only is he learning how to safely handle food, but it is also a lesson on grace and courtesy.

Terry Fox Run

Thank you to the parents who joined us for the Terry Fox Run in Piccadilly Park on Wednesday. The rain held off and while it was cool out, the positive energy and support for all our runners warmed our hearts.

UE polling stations

At the polling station. Candidates for class prime minister, Solana Brew and Bren Birch, cast their votes along with their constituents.
