Outdoor Family Movie Night – waiting listWe had an overwhelmingly positive response to our Family Movie Night on October 6! So much so that we’ve had to start a waiting list. If you are interested in being placed on this list, please email Sara in the office: sheald@montessori.on.ca.
Junior and Senior Choir signup – deadline is todayLast week LE, UE and JH families received an email via parent reps about the musical and choirs this year. Please complete the online form soon to let us know if your child(ren) are joining the choirs. Choir is for students in Years 2 through 8. Year 1 students participate in their own choir during school hours.
Please note: UE choir is moving to 8 a.m. on Thursdays due to scheduling conflicts. … and a friendly reminder that students must participate in choir to be part of the musical.
Save the Date: Orange Shirt Day is Sept. 30![]() On September 30 our school will recognize Orange Shirt Day. On this day, we ask students to wear an orange shirt to school. By wearing the orange shirts we are actively recognizing the Indigenous community and the tragedy with Residential Schools. There will be a few small lessons on Orange Shirt Day to explain to the children, in an age-appropriate way, why they are wearing the orange shirts. There will be another article coming out in the Tuesday, September 27 Buzz explaining more of what we will be doing during the day.
Make sure to get your orange shirt ready for September 30th!
Sincerely,
Junior High
Terry Fox Run 2022Montessori Academy is hosting a Terry Fox Run on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

We are asking students and teachers to bring in loose change so that the school can make a donation to aid the Terry Fox Foundation in cancer research. Please come and join us to carry the legacy of Terry Fox into the future!

Junior High Navigation Week![]() Junior High has been occupied at work these past 2 weeks. We have been challenged with organization, team building activities, summer exploration project presentations, and various workshops such as self reflection workshops like: the jelly bean video (in this video we learned that time is precious and valuable), and team building activities such as: seminar, code of conduct to build the community guidelines, a big rock paper scissors match, and Jr. High Bingo to learn more about our peers.
The summer exploration project allowed us to learn more about ourselves and others in our community. We were able to stand in front of the class and chose something that we did or learned over the summer break.
Junior High has partnered with Y.O.U. (Youth Opportunities Unlimited) for approximately three years now. We have gone through various workshops to help and prepare us for setting up and cleaning up lunches. The Junior High’s hot lunch program’s #1 vision is for the students to learn basic kitchen and cooking skills.
Our workshops are helping us grow as people and as a community. We have done various workshops such as: how to keep organized, a Socratic seminar where we annotated the poem “The Road not Taken” and learning about the importance of referencing.
We are so excited to participate in our school’s Terry Fox Run. Students participated in a workshop where we took time in learning about him, his character traits and his goals.
Junior High students were so thrilled to get back into playing in a band. We are currently practicing for the Remembrance Day Assembly with our instruments including; the tubas, clarinets, trumpets, etc.
Students are preparing for a new adventure at Camp Arowhon and seeing the ALIVE team. Our intention and hope is to grow as an individual and become a strong Junior High Community.
