Montessori Buzz – Sept. 3, 2019

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!

Dear MA Families & Friends,

From the Academic Director: Welcome back!

I hope that everyone had a relaxing, fun-filled summer with their family and friends. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome both returning and new families to what I feel is the most amazing place to be! Our school!!

This year we are looking forward to all of the amazing things we have planned. From our fall classroom events, Learn Your Level parent information sessions, the winter concert in December, ARTexpo in May, and our year end school-wide Family & Friends event at Storybook Gardens, just to name a few.

Our Buzz, which is sent out electronically on Tuesday afternoons, carries a wealth of information listing events and important happenings at the school. Also, the monthly classroom calendars and the Upper Elementary and Junior High websites contain details of what is going on in your child’s specific location and class.

Your child’s teachers are your main go-to people for any information; they are full of knowledge and know the daily life within their classrooms. Our teachers are committed to your children and to you the parents, and I know the relationships that are established with the teachers, children and parents last a lifetime.

I would also like to thank the parent reps who you will get to know throughout the school year for your child’s class. They will be supporting the classroom teachers in delivering important messages to you as well as helping out at certain events. If you would like to volunteer your time in the school or for other events please don’t hesitate to chat with your child’s teacher or your classroom parent rep. Or you can email our new volunteer@montessori.on.ca email.

Please know that my door is always open and I am looking forward to reconnecting with current families and meeting our new ones.

Warmest regards,
Kristen Crouse, Academic Director

Elementary & Junior High Photo Days

  • September 10 – Lower Elementary Photo Day
  • September 11 – Upper Elementary & Junior High Photo Day

Toddler and Casa photo days will take place in October.

A few changes to upcoming event dates …

  • MMUN parent meeting is now Wednesday, Sept. 11. The date has changed since the Year at a Glance was printed.
  • The Upper El coffee social will take place on Friday, Sept. 13, from 8-9 a.m. – this is correct in the Year at a Glance calendar but was incorrect in the Upper El August letter.
  • End of Summer Social is on Monday, Sept. 9. Join us for the event to celebrate the new school year! Find all the details on the school-wide online calendar: https://montessori.on.ca/event/end-of-summer-social-2019/

FYI: Installing fibre optic lines – potential delays downtown

The city is upgrading our infrastructure with fibre optic lines which may cause delays over the next few weeks. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause parents during the first week of school; we hope the work is done quickly.

Phasing In last week in our Casa classrooms

To help ease the transition into the classroom for our youngest students, we invited our new Toddler and Casa children for short visits last week. In Casa, several students got right down to busy-ness, keeping themselves occupied by practicing their practical life skills!

And, yes, the little white jug and bottles are ceramic! A recent post from Montistory on Facebook details Dr. Maria Montessori’s belief that children should learn to handle “certain number of fragile objects, glasses, plates, vases, and so forth” in the classroom and at home…: https://www.facebook.com/montistory/posts/1265491656962106

Welcome, friend!

Today in our Toddler One classroom, some of our returning students were very helpful in showing our new friends where we put all of our spare clothes. #community #helpful #socute

Welcome back at Elementary

Our parents and students were welcomed warmly this morning by our MA-zing teachers at Elementary — and around the school. Here’s to a great school year!

If you have family members or friends who would like to be on the Buzz distribution list, please have them contact Reception@montessori.on.ca. We require their first name, last name and email address to add them to our database.
