Montessori Buzz – Sept. 23, 2025

Dear MA Families & Friends,

FYI: Orange Shirt Day is next Tuesday, Sept. 30

Next Tuesday, our Montessori community will observe Orange Shirt Day, a time of reflection and learning about the impact of residential schools on Indigenous children and families. Students will engage in age-appropriate discussions, storytelling, and creative activities that emphasize the importance of every child feeling valued, safe, and heard. We encourage our students to wear orange as a powerful symbol of our commitment to truth, reconciliation, and respect for Indigenous cultures.

Halloween Boo-ling tickets still available

Halloween Boo-Ling tickets are selling like mini candy bars! Thank you to everyone who has bought a ticket so far in support of our first Fundraiser of the school year.

A friendly reminder: Because this is an evening fundraising event, adults must also purchase a ticket and accompany their child(ren). We can not provide supervision at this event.

Heads up: October 10 PD Day

Our first PD Day is Friday, Oct. 10. This PD Day aligns with TVDSB, so there should be plenty of options for PD Day Camps. Keep an eye on our Instagram Stories where we’ll share the various camps we come across.

In the New Year, we’ll have several MA-specific PD Days that do not align with the public board; we’re working with a few local businesses to provide MA PD Day camp programming for our students. We’ll share those in the Buzz and social media as we get closer to those dates.

Photos from the week

Peace Day activities

Sunday was International Day of Peace. The Toddler and Casa students around the school celebrated with peace-themed crafts and activities.

Beautiful community within the classroom

“The sense of belonging is the child’s first experience of community.”

Westmount Toddler fruit lessons!

Our Toddlers have been learning about different fruits! They took a closer look at a few different kinds during circle time: golden apples, lemon and dragon fruit!

Casa nature walk

Did you know Montessori Academy provides a monthly craft and activity column in the Mom & Caregiver magazine? Last Thursday, Waterloo Casa went on a nature walk to find pinecones, leaves and other items for November’s creative activity. Keep an eye out for our fun and creative ideas in the magazine each month!

The Montessori Mixed-Age Classroom in action

This moment was caught on the morning of September 2, the very first day of school. A second-year Casa student noticed this  first-year student who needed some help with his indoor shoes. This is the beauty of the mixed-age classroom.

UE Social

Upper Elementary invited parents to join them after school last week for some connection, activity and laughs. Thank you to the teachers and students for preparing such a fun afternoon of activities!
