Montessori Buzz – Oct. 22, 2024

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Reminder: Elementary Remembrance Day Assembly

Elementary & Junior High parents: Please let us know ASAP via the Google form below if you’re joining us for the assembly and whether you plan to take your children home right from the assembly: https://forms.gle/tYG1gzP8qCP83PQ67. This will help us know how many buses to reserve that day.
We look forward to seeing you at the Assembly on November 11.

FYI: Colborne Street closure planned for Oct. 29 & 30

We were given a heads-up that Colborne Street will be closed October 29 and 30 from Oxford to Dufferin while they do some work on the trees. Please be mindful of this if you’re dropping your children off near the Gym or take that road to school.

50/50 Tickets on Sale at the Front Desk until Wednesday!

Don’t miss the opportunity to win up to $2,000 AND support the school! Tickets are $20 each or 3 for $50.  See Tameka in the Admin Office to get yours before the end of the day tomorrow.
Tickets will also be on sale at the Halloween Boo-Ling event at Palasad South this Thursday, October 24 before the draw!  You do not need to be present to win. Proceeds from the raffle will help the school purchase replacement Chromebooks for our Elementary and Junior High classrooms.

Halloween Boo-Ling is this Thursday at Palasad South starting at 5pm!

Online ticket sales are now closed. If you missed the chance and still want to attend, there are a handful of tickets left. Contact Tonya at tdendrinos@montessori.on.ca for tickets.
P.S. You do not need to bowl! You can purchase a General Admission ticket and just come for the party, good company and COSTUMES!
Fundraising activities at the event include a favourite Trick or Treat Game – $5 per play – and every play wins a prize! Also, the spooktacular Beetlejuice-inspired centre pieces will be available to purchase via silent auction.

‘The Power of Love in Montessori Environments’

This article does a wonderful job sharing how the Montessori classroom is built on a foundation of love and inspires compassion.

Photos from the week

Casa 1 Library visit!

Casa 1 was so excited to visit the Elementary Library! MA Librarian Rob was such a gracious host. The children enjoyed building, colouring, learning letter sounds with playdough and most importantly discovering library books. Casa 1 also loved listening to Rob reading to the class.
Taking part in MA’s larger community is intriguing for our youngest students. They get to see what it means to be an older student and feel the importance of the Montessori journey at MA.

Casa 4 October update

The month of October began on such a positive note!  On October 8, the children visited Circle R Ranch to participate in a farm animal program. They delighted in using their senses to learn about chickens, goats, sheep, and horses and were actively involved in discussions regarding the similarities and differences in what animals eat, why farmers raise different animals, and specific individual characteristics. The children took pony rides and a tractor-drawn wagon ride through the beautiful 80-hectare site.
We have also been humbled by the outpouring of support for Merrymount. Our hearts feel full to be part of such a generous and caring community.

Lower El Salthaven donations … so far!

The Lower Elementary children are so happy to be collecting donations for the 1000 Acts of Kindness program. We are welcoming donations for Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. Donations will be accepted until October 31. Thank you so much for helping!

UE2 Middle Ages presentations

The Year 6 students wrote and presented a monologue of a day in the life of someone in the Middle Ages.

Research Participants wanted…

Dr. Daniel Ansari, a researcher from Western University, is looking for children ages 5-12 and their caregivers to participate in a study that explores how children learn across contexts. To participate in this study, researchers will schedule a time for caregivers and children to visit the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building  (located on Perth Drive across from University Hospital).

Dr. Ansari is happy to offer flexible booking that includes evenings and weekends. If you would like to sign up, or for more information, please contact Dr. Ansari’s lab at numcog@uwo.ca or visit our website https://levante-network.org/ to learn about the background of the study and news.
