Montessori Buzz – Oct. 8, 2024

Dear MA Families & Friends,

Upcoming PD Day and Holiday

This Friday is PD Day, there is no school for the students. On Monday, the school will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We wish all of our families and friends a very happy Thanksgiving!

Photo retakes are Friday, Oct. 18

If you would like your child/ren to have their photos retaken, please fill out this Google Sheet by Tuesday, October 15. Retakes will take place in front of the Main Office on Friday, Oct. 18, and parents must accompany their children, as teachers cannot leave their classrooms.

Boo-ling tickets still available

Halloween Boo-Ling is almost sold out! Limited tickets are still on sale until next Tuesday, Oct. 15.  Purchase tickets online today! Montessori.on.ca/Halloween

50/50 Tickets on Sale Now!

We’re holding a 50/50 Raffle! Purchase tickets at the Main Office (719 Waterloo St.) by October 23, or at the Halloween Boo-Ling event. The draw will take place at the event on Thursday, Oct. 24, at Palasad, however, you do not need to be present to win.

  • Win 50% of the raffle ticket sales — Up to $2,000!
  • The more tickets we sell, the bigger the prize amount.
  • Tickets $20 each or 3 tickets for $50.
  • Must be 18 years old or older to play.  Lottery License #M862583

Proceeds from ticket sales will support new Chromebooks for Elementary and Junior High. Chromebooks have become a necessity in our Elementary and Junior High classrooms.  As a result of many students using them every day, they “burn out” and need to be replaced every few years.

Elementary Remembrance Day Assembly is Nov. 11

We invite our Elementary and Junior High parents to join us for our Remembrance Day Assembly on Monday, Nov. 11, at The Academy Circus. This assembly is always a beautiful, thoughtful presentation with performances by many of our students in Years 1 through Junior High.

Elementary & JH parents: Please let us know via the Google form below if you’re joining us for the assembly and whether you plan to take your children home right from the assembly: https://forms.gle/tYG1gzP8qCP83PQ67. This will help us know how many buses to reserve that day.

FYI: PJ Day is Nov. 22

New charity alert!

As you may have seen in your October classroom letters, PJ Day is Friday, Nov. 22. PJ Day is part of our commitment to Charitable Giving. Throughout the year, our community raises donations through various activities and events. This year, your donations of loose change on PJ Day will be directed to Childcan

Childcan has provided direct support to families battling childhood cancer since 1974. That support includes financial assistance, emotional support, social programs, and research funding.

Photos from the Week

Acts of Kindness!

Casa has been throwing Kindness around like confetti! Last week, Casa 3 shared beautiful bouquets with their friends in Casa 2. Then Casa 2 returned the favour by making some homemade playdough to share with Casa 3! #1000ActsOfKindness

Waterloo Casa painted rocks orange for Orange Shirt Day, and were inspired to share kind words on each of them. Have you seen them around our downtown buildings?

Big Math work in Casa

There is some BIG math work happening in Casa lately. Counting to 9000!

Junior High’s lesson in safe food handling.

The lunch program is a cornerstone of the JH curriculum. Last week, Jim from the Middlesex-London Health Unit dropped by to provide the students training on Safe Food Handling. The students learned about public health legislation, food microbiology, food allergies, temperature control, and cross-contamination… plus the importance of personal hygiene and hand washing.
