On Thursday, Oct. 10, from 3-4:30pm, Julia Swaigen MSW, RSW will lead us through an engaging parent information session: “Parent Talk: Supporting Kids by Setting Limits.” After-school care will be provided for families who attend this session.

The Terry Fox Run

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Terry Fox Run yesterday – we lucked out with the weather! Your donations of loose change will support the Terry Fox Foundation for Cancer Research. 

Cross-country season!

RMC meet on Oct 1

Cross Country is in full swing. The Junior High students will take part in a cross country run on Tuesday, October 1 at Regina Mundi High School from 10am-12pm. Parents coming to watch are asked to park at St. Leopold Catholic Church (2889 Westminster Drive). St. Leopold’s backs onto the cross country course and they are able to view the runners as they pass them on the back part of the course. 

Springbank Fun Run on Oct. 9

The students in Upper Elementary and Junior High will take part in the Springbank Fun Run on Wednesday, October 9, from 9:15-noon. Details will be shared in the Buzz next week and on the classroom websites.

 

Heads-up: PD Day on Friday, Oct. 11

Our first PD Day of the school year is Friday, Oct. 11, before our Thanksgiving weekend. There is no school for the students.

PD Day Babysitters

To help provide care for students on PD Days that do not align with TVDSB, we are gathering a list of JH students who are interested in babysitting. Parents looking for care on PD Days, please call the front desk to receive a list of potential babysitters. 

PD Day Camps

We have also partnered with a few organizations around the city to provide PD Day Camps for our students. Information on the various camps will be shared in the From the Community section of the newsletter.

Casa 4 Peace Day

What a wonderful first month of school we have had.  We ended September by talking about the many ways we demonstrate peace in our world and within the classroom community.   Friday we enjoyed coming together with 311 Oxford Street to sing “Light A Candle For Peace” for Peace Day. 

Lower El 1 gifting pens 

Victoria generously brought in breast cancer awareness pens last week in preparation for Monday’s Terry Fox Run in Piccadilly park. She brought in enough for all of Elementary and the Admin team! 

 

Peer Peacekeepers

On Friday, our Year 6 students finished their peer peacekeeping training, learning the difference between leaders and bosses, and then they took part in the cooperative egg drop challenge. 

 

Junior High practical life skills 

Practical Life Skills activities don’t stop in Elementary. Our Junior High students hit the grocery store this week to purchase food and supplies for their community lunch program.
